Patterns of power: Indigenous Art of the Americas

  • ArtUs Co 10000 Research Blvd. Suite 141 Austin, TX, 78759 United States (map)

Indigenous artwork from the Shipibo Conibo, who are native to the Ucayali river basin in South America, from the Kogi who live in the high mountains of northern Colombia, and from the Wixáritari, or Huichol people, Indigenous to the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range of Central Mexico. Each of these expressions of art represent deep meaning and embody the people's spiritual beliefs and practices.

All of these communities are project partners with the Center for Shamanic Education and Exchange, a nonprofit organization, who supports Indigenous communities in upholding their spiritual traditions, rituals, and ceremonies. From the lush Colombian lands of the Kogi to the vibrant Amazonian realms of the Shipibo Conibo, the sacred territories of the Wixarika Huichol, among other communities, the Center's initiatives resonate across diverse landscapes and cultures. By fostering exchange and collaboration, it cultivates a rich tapestry of knowledge and understanding, ensuring that ancient wisdom continues to thrive for generations to come.
