Resident artist Feature: Kara Timmons
Behind the Canvas
Oil and acrylic paintings exploring this surreal life.
How long have you been making art?
"I've been making art since I was a kid! I've always been intensely interested in creating my own worlds, and have been obsessed with doing that through art since I can remember."
How did you get your start?
“My dad taught me how to draw realistically and bought me my first serious art supplies. I got a lot of praise and support from my classmates and teachers growing up, and that fueled me to keep going.”
What's a fun fact about you as an artist?
“I was very into digital art as a kid in the 2000s, and thought I would become a digital illustrator! Now I am all about the traditional mediums.”
Kara’s art practice:
“My paintings journey through the strangeness and beauty of being alive, merging the human figure and portrait with nature, myth, and mystical elements. My work explores the uncanny spaces between waking life and dreams, the cycles of life, relationship with nature, and what the future might hold.”
Any big projects coming up?
"I’m currently preparing for the upcoming Collective Show exhibition at the beginning of December, and getting organized for next year!"
Where can we find your work?
“My work can be found at ArtUs Co - come visit me in the studio sometime!”
